Access10 Awards

One of the most anticipated events held during Access10 was the CTA’s Awards Dinner held at Hilton Hotel, Deansgate, Manchester.

Attended by over 250 people the third CTA Awards celebrated all that is best about Community Transport across the UK.

Compared by Jim Hancock, BBC Manchester the CTA Awards recognised the outstanding performance of Community Transport volunteers and organisations.

Through their commitment to our communities both the winners and runners up all demonstrated excellence in their delivery of accessible, alternative transport services in their local areas.

Dai Powell
OBE

“The CTA annual awards reward absolute excellence, celebrate exceptional performance and recognise the outstanding achievements of volunteers, trustees, staff, communities and partner organisations.

Of course, thousands of people who use community transport each day value the services which we provide, but winning an award tells outstanding performers that their hard work is acknowledged by their peers and by all of us at the CTA.

The awards would not be possible without the support of our eight sponsors and, of course, the awards entrants themselves.

I am very grateful to everyone involved and particularly to GoSkills – the sector skills council for passenger transport – for sponsoring the drinks reception.”

Dai Powell then introduced Dr Stephen Hickey who is the CTA Chair designate. A former director of the Department for Transport will become the CTA’s new chair in November 2010. Dr Hickey said “the really important challenge for the CTA is to ensure that it provides good quality, useful services to its members, but also to provide a voice for the sector which will be heard at a national level.”

“Succeeding Dai is a big ask and he leaves a legacy. I think I will bring something different to the role, but will continue to stress his message of sustainability.”

During the evening CTA honoured three trustees who have completed their time on the CTA board. They included Mary O’Niell, Tommy Jones and Murray Secombe.
