Unit 39

Community transport and the 'TaxiPlus' Model

Unit no:  39
Day: Wednesday 24th February
Times:   14:15 to 14:45
Unit type:    Free briefing

The Commission for Integrated Transport (CfIT) has assessed shared taxi schemes (which are being referred to as 'TaxiPlus') from across Europe and the UK. Research undertaken by Mott MacDonald on behalf of CfIT has assessed schemes which operate on a large scale in many rural areas of mainland Europe. Because TaxiPlus services only run when requested, they are more cost-effective than conventional bus services in remote areas and at off-peak times, providing services seven days a week from early in the morning until late at night in places where a conventional bus service would not be viable. This free session will update visitors on the research and the TaxiPlus model and consider how community transport can become involved
