Theme 8 - Localism and Procurement

NOTE: In order to respond to developments in the localism agenda and in procurement practice, we have combined the two subject areas that were originally contained in Themes 8 and 9.  The new theme has been re-designated as “Theme 8 - Localism and Procurement” and will cover most of the content that was initially planned.  The timetable for the day – Wednesday March 16th – has also changed slightly and will be as follows:

10.15 Localism – An overview of the new Localism Bill and what it means for the third sector including community transport organisations. Localism brings major change in the way services are funded, procured and delivered. How will it shape the future for community transport?

11.15 Break

11.45 Learning from the Real world – Localism is already a feature in some parts of the UK. What has its impact been, particularly in relation to procurement? This session will also feature an update on the experiences to date of the participant groups in CTA’s Rural Social Enterprise Programme.

12.45 Lunch

13.45 Tendering made easy Part 1: Tendering for Contracts

Are you new to procurement? Have you attempted tendering but so far been unsuccessful? This practical introductory session which looks at the important “do’s” and “don’ts”, will help you better manage the preparation and presentation required to tender effectively, giving you greater confidence to move your organisation forward.

14.30 Break

15.00 Tendering made easy Part 2: Engaging effectively with procurement

This follow-on session will focus in more detail on how procurement systems work, how they are weighted and assessed and how decisions are made. Mechanisms such as e-tendering will also be examined. Some of the issues emerging from earlier sessions may be addressed as well.

15.45 End

We have made these changes to try and ensure that the information covered is as up to date and relevant as possible.  We would remind you as well, however, that you are of course free to attend any other sessions of your choice during your visit to Access11.

We look forward to seeing you on the 16th of March
