CTA England Policy Conference 2010
Thursday 25th November 2010
RBS Auditorium, 280 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 4RB
The CTA’s England Policy Conference 2010 is aimed at all trustees, staff and volunteers of community transport organisations; members and staff from local authorities; representatives from community partnerships and civil society organisations; civil servants and consultants.
The conference will explore the new political and funding landscape following the Coalition Government’s Spending Review announcements on 20th October.
The Transport Minister will deliver his first keynote speech to the community transport sector. This will be followed by a short presentation on the key findings of the CTA 2010 State of the Sector report for England, a copy of which will be given to each conference delegate. Both presentations will help set the scene for the conference.
We will then consider what the “Big Society” agenda means to community transport and how we can contribute to it. And what challenges and opportunities the “localism” agenda and the future delivery of public services will present. To help us, there will be presentations on community regeneration and entrepreneurship which will demonstrate what can be achieved when people pull together and take responsibility for solving their own problems. And how mutualism, civic renewal and participation is vital if the public sphere is to be maintained in the face of large scale spending cuts.
There will then be three presentations from different perspectives on the changing role of local authorities, followed by discussion.
We will also illuminate the work of community transport organisations who are demonstrating how community transport has the potential to do so much more.
The formal conference programme will conclude with a presentation from the Senior Traffic Commissioner on some of the issues around “fairness” and road safety which our members need to consider when securing contracts and delivering public transport services. This will be followed by a summary of the main points to emerge from the day’s discussions.
Following the conference a drinks reception will be held in the foyer which provides an ideal opportunity for networking and meeting CTA trustees and staff.
For members of the CTA, our Annual General Meeting will take place from 5pm to 6pm in the auditorium.
