Rural Areas
For organisations in rural areas of England the Commission for Rural Communities has published a report of best practice case studies in rural accessibility. They have also published a report into poverty in rural areas. Defra published a classification of Rural Authorities in England, which indicates in which “band” a local authority is placed in terms of its rural nature. Finally, Birkbeck College in association with Action for Market Towns have published a typology for classifying rural towns and large villages. These tools are all useful in developing the case, and evidencing the need, for services in rural areas.

Public Procurement
Tendering for Public Sector contracts is an increasing part of CT work. We have identified two guides, one from Norfolk cvs on best practice, and one from NCVO on the legal requirements of tendering.

Proving It
With increasing pressure for funding and finance, it is important to demonstrate the effectiveness of community transport operations. The CTA has worked with social accounting consultants to develop the social reporting toolkit for community transport operators. This introduces a methodology for introducing social accounting techniques into your day-to-day operations.
