Influencing Policies & Legislation
A key strand of the CTA’s work on behalf of our members is to engage with government – both centrally and in each country of the UK – to inform, influence and help shape future policies and legislation that are either relevant to voluntary and community transport or third sector organisations.
In consultation with our members and the wider voluntary and community transport network, the CTA formulates and develops policy positions on major issues affecting the sector. We work reactively by responding to consultations and proactively through advocacy and focusing on issues relevant to our members.
The CTA has been instrumental in securing the Government's commitment to reform the law to allow community transport organisations the freedom to operate more services, particularly in rural areas. The proposals contained in the Local Transport Act 2008 are a direct result of the CTA's lobbying of Transport Ministers and its evidence to the Transport Select Committee.
CTA has "5 Asks" of Government, more details of these and other work with government at all levels is available here. Current submissions to Select Committees are also shown.
