Concessionary Travel
When the Concessionary Bus Travel Act came into force, it brought England more into line with others areas of the UK by allowing free local bus travel on a national basis for over-60s and people with disabilities. However, it is still the case that a the number of people able to make use of this entitlement varies depending on where they live and the approach taken by the travel concession authority in their area to discretionary enhancements to the national statutory minimum. This means that some people are still not able to make use of concessionary travel to which they are entitled and are, in effect, discriminated against.
As reported in the CTA's Winter 2011 Journal the CTA is supporting Paul Maynard, Conservative MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, in his bid to to extend the concessionary fare scheme to community transport organisations.
